The U.S. Department of Energy released an update that states that the use of LED lighting has the potential to reduce the consumption of energy by 50% by 2030 if all targets for price and performance are able to be met. In addition, the DOE released a report that forecasts extensive energy savings compared to traditional lighting sources. This report makes it clear that LEDs should and most likely will be the way of the future.

The potential of energy savings from the years 2010-2030, according to the energy prices of today, is $250 billion. By the year 2020, it is predicted that lamps will not be equipped with traditional lighting, but with LEDs which is where the savings comes into play. By the year 2030, U.S energy consumption could be cut almost in half simply by using LED lighting. This is equivalent to the energy that it takes to power nearly 24 million homes.

So what does this mean for the future of our planet? It means positive changes to the environment by reducing energy consumption and ultimately our carbon footprint. Approximately 74% of market penetration is predicted for white light LEDs as well as all other LED-based products. Currently, more than 20% of electricity consumption in the United States comes from LED lighting. It will continue to grow as we see innovative new products enter the LED market. This will ultimately change the face of the world forever.
